Kabuki is a type of classical Japanese theathre. It dates back 415 years, when women, in 1603, started performing a new style of dance drama. It is associated with colorful masks and dresses. It is sometimes interpreted as “avant-garde” or “bizarre” theatre. The individual symbols (kanji) read sing, dance and skill, so Kabuki is sometimes interpreted as “the art of singing and dancing”.
